Prestival Lead-In Events
Saturday 7th July - Friday 20th July
The Prestival weekend was proceeded by a number of events organised as part of the Prestival programme. These
included:
Saturday 7th July
Preston artist, Iain Bailey painted the portraits of three competition winners.
Friday 13th July – Friday 19th July
London artist, Louise Clarke, the selected artist for the Prestival/PAD miniresidency, created a site-specific installation drawing on the gallery walls. Visitors to the gallery could talk to the artist and passers-by could watch her at work through the gallery windows.
Wednesday 18th July
A public event where artist Louise Clarke talked about her past work and the ideas behind her work for Prestival.
Thursday 19th July, Friday 20th July
Sheffield artist Hester Reeve created a new artwork through a durational performance in one of the galleries at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery.
Main Prestival Programme
Friday 20th July
7.30 pm
Official Prestival launch at PAD Gallery, Church Street.
This event included music by Preston musicians Annette and Ken Cooke, a reading by Blackburn poet Mark Ward and new work by London painter and printmaker Louise Clarke, produced during the Prestival/ PAD mini-residency.
Saturday 21st July
10.30 am – 4.30 pm
Public multi-venue exhibition.
The main Prestival programme was a public event which took place in a number of locations and venues across the city including the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, PAD Shop and Gallery, The Museum of Lancashire, Nguzo Saba Centre, Watermark Studios, The Mall St. Georges Shopping Centre, Brew Café, Action Records, Preston Tourist Information Centre and Parmesan & Pepper Restaurant. 28 artworks including painting, sculpture, installation, public art, digital art and performance were featured. All Prestival artists took part in a tour of the artworks and performances across the city, whilst other members of the public visited the artworks independently by following a map and timetable distributed through the website.
Saturday 21st July
8 pm – 1 am
‘Prestival Live’ at the Guild Hall.
This was a free event which took place at the Guild Hall and formed the finale of Prestival. It was attended by over 200 people and featured artworks, short films, performance, dance and music by 15 Preston-based artists and groups.
Sunday 22nd July
10.30 am- 12 pm
Brunch networking event, PAD Gallery
This final networking event gave all participating artists the chance to swap information and contacts over breakfast and live music.
Prestival Fringe events
These were additional events organised by recent graduates in Preston.
Thursday 19th July
7 pm
'Fermez La Bouche' event, 24 Osborne St, Preston
Preston artist group, Fermez La Bouche presented an exhibition in a domestic setting, organised by Kerry Howarth.
"Fermez la Bouche is an artist’s collective working in and around Preston. Although our practice varies greatly, we all employ drawing methodologies as a starting point for our work. We share a kind of improvised, intuitive craft aesthetic- a nod to traditional women’s art."
Thursday 19th July - Sunday 22nd July
NANW (New Art North West)
Stagecoach inner city bus routes 3,11 and 16
A programme of artworks on buses by the group New Art North West. Artists included: Garth Gratrix, Ana Machiedo, Carrie Kelly, Matthew Livesey, Amy Marshall, Diane Rickerby, Debi Shaw, Nicola Martin, Jonny Lamin and Dave Mackinosh.
